Inspired by the real-life theft of a racing pigeon worth over a million dollars, ProdCo director Alex Takács brilliantly takes electronic duo BICEP’s three new tracks, GAS, ULTRA and EQUARIUM, into altogether stranger territory.

Shot in Tbilisi and set within the obsessive world of pigeon breeding, GAS follows a gang plotting to steal a bio-drone – a living pigeon fitted with implants that allow a human to control its flight. But when a young thief takes the bird on a joyride, the city becomes a playground seen through avian eyes.

“A while back, I read this article about a very expensive racing pigeon that was stolen in Brussels,” says Takács. “It led me into this obsessive world of pigeon breeding, where it’s all about bloodlines. The technology to control pigeons in flight is also real. There’s a duality and terrible beauty in all that, and it just felt right for these singles.”

Moving between gritty realism and dystopian fantasy, Takács blends cinematic slow motion with degraded CCTV-style surveillance, the digital distortions becoming part of the storytelling itself. Drawing on actual experiments in military bio-surveillance, the director extends Bicep’s exploration of technology and human connection into a speculative reality born from a real-world story, imagining dystopian technology repurposed for an unlikely pursuit of bliss.

GAS is one of three interconnected films conceived and directed by Takács for the tracks GAS, ULTRA and EQUARIUM, released simultaneously as singles from Bicep’s forthcoming album SLUG, out on 29 January 2027.
