ResistDance vs Redaction By Bryan Buckley
Hungryman director Bryan Buckley reunites with The First Amendment Troop for his second film with the company, capturing their latest protest performance, ResistDance vs Redaction. Staged on April 9 at the Lincoln Memorial and Kennedy Center, the piece responds to renewed scrutiny around the Epstein files and allegations involving Donald Trump. Featuring 12 young dancers and a solo performance from a 15-year-old, the work is set to Madonna’s Live to Tell, performed by a children’s choir. Blindfolded and marked with excerpts from the files, the dancers embody themes of redaction, erasure and withheld truth. Created by Buckley alongside choreographer Matthew Steffens, the performance reinterprets Jane Doe 4’s testimony through movement, centring the voices of young people and the failures of the systems meant to protect them.
