The testimonies that we had access to were so alarming and so engaging that the main work of the film was getting that VO track correct to tell the shared coherent truth of the participants. The visuals were all just born from the shared experience that kept recurring, that after being dropped the participants all just locked themselves away in a room because they couldn't see any way forward. So we combined that with the joy they had when they first started playing football.
My work is all about real people and real places. It’s about showing relatable and natural people in relatable and natural environments. Crossing the line back and forth between working with non-actors and actors to create scenes that ring true to audiences, my approach is to always find that shared moment, that common ground between audience and subject, that lets the subject matter ring true.
