When we look in the mirror, each of us see a different view of ourselves. For Marisa Kimmel she sees a mother. Looking at herself, Marisa also sees a bald head and for her, it’s a constant reminder that we are all unique and that is a beautiful thing. What inspired this film was my close connection with my mother. I was breastfeed as kid and my mother continues to tell me how much that meant to her. It was the connection between her body and mine. After learning about Marisa's situation we immediately decided to document this process. The motivation was to always put Marisa in a beautiful light, almost like an art film but knowing this is still a short documentary. We shot this over the course of 4 days; pre surgery and post surgery while doing audio interviews in-between to capture how she felt during the process. The purpose of this film is to provide encouragement for any mother or women facing any body changes. Marisa is now a spokesperson for female empowerment within the alopecia community. We hope this film is seen by many and helps others facing a similar situation. Thanks for your consideration.
Stemming from a producing background, Nick is a very self-motivated Director, with a passion for diving deep into story structure. His focus is discovering the raw elements of personal stories and finding ways to pull those emotions from story, to screen, to viewer. Often these stories deal with subjects of identity, family, personal growth and healing. His ability to find positive aspects in every person and situation is transparent in his style. He always finds a way to connect with any actor or real person, even in complex situations. Every story Nick touches brings honest human emotions to light in a cinematic presentation. When done properly, these stories provide an emotional journey that can help people through their own struggles. Fun Fact: Nick also turns into a little kid around any dog he meets.
