Kayla Marie Arend is an American writer / director who recently earned her MFA in writing and directing Film and Television at NYU Graduate Film Program, Tisch School of the Arts. Kayla is the recipient of the Spike Lee production fund in 2020 for her graduate thesis film, Leaving Yellowstone. Kayla enjoys exploring stories with strong female leads, often over coming the odds while being in complete and total wilderness. Using the natural world to inspire her, Kayla's work includes symbolism to convey story. Kayla enjoys exploring stories about womxn overcoming the odds while emerged in nature or interacting with the wilderness in some capacity. She is currently developing her first feature film.
