Vincent René-Lortie is a Canadian film director and screenwriter known for his grounded, dreamlike narratives. His work is a testament to purposeful and deeply personal storytelling, intended to make his audience reflect on themes such as mental health and childhood.

Invincible (2022), his debut narrative short, has been nominated at the 96th Academy Awards® for Best Live Action Short Film and won the International Special Jury Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. Most recently, Vincent has been focusing on bringing to life the experimental film A Dying Tree (2024), currently in distribution, and is developing his first feature film, You Were Always An Island.

Created for Les Producteurs de Lait du Québec (PLQ) by LG2, New Generation follows a father and daughter as they share life on a small dairy farm.

Shot through Denim, the film is imbued with heart by Vincent René-Lortie's delicate direction, aided by gorgeous cinematography from Alexandre Nour and a swift but suptuous edit from Xavier Lévesque.

"My earliest memory of an ad as a kid was a Quebec Dairy Farmers commercial," said Vincent René- Lortie. "For many of us who grew up here, those ads were part of our shared upbringing. They treated advertising as storytelling, with a boldness that ended up marking a generation.

Being able to make this film for them carried real meaning because of that. I wanted to approach it with care and honesty, and I was fortunate to collaborate closely with the agency creatives to shape a story about family, growing up, and the small, quiet moments that end up defining us more than we realize.

It is a tale that we all recognize, yet one that remains deeply specific. What I am most proud of was the reaction of the dairy farmers themselves, who genuinely related to the film, from both the father’s and the daughter’s perspectives.

The film came together thanks to a lot of care and an extraordinary cast. A story like this only exists because of the people who embody it. A special mention to our lead, Jeanne, who shaved her head on camera for the film."
