Ramón Who Speaks to Ghosts Shervin Kermani
Shervin Kermani is an award winning Iranian-Canadian filmmaker whose work has screened at several Oscar-qualifying festivals, including TIFF, Slamdance, Palm Springs, Uppsala, Montreal, and won a Canadian Screen Award. His latest film, Ramón Who Speaks to Ghosts was made under the mentorship of Werner Herzog.
When confronted by the devastation of the Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption, I didn't want to approach it head-on like a journalist, but to find a back door to the disaster.
This image of a man with his microphone looking for ghosts felt like the right metaphor to unlock the larger themes of the tragedy and the everyday beauty that was lost.
