Director's Works
Nicos Livesey's style fuses technical innovation with unique creative expression. He's a true mixed media specialist, directing multi-award-winning films for bands and brands like Iron Maiden, Radkey, Gorillaz, and the BBC. Whether he’s creating expansive 2D odysseys, psychedelic claymation head trips, or intricate stop-motion masterpieces animated from hundreds of individually woven tapestry frames, Nicos is a director who constantly pushes the boundaries to mind-bending effect.
BritBox’s See It Differently campaign is as much a feat of direction as it is of production craft, built around an uncompromising commitment to doing everything in camera. Nicos’ approach centered on treating the film like a live performance, directing a single actor through a continuous, 14-hour shoot with no resets, where timing, emotion and physical endurance were as critical as technical precision. His direction emphasised restraint and clarity, allowing the transitions between genres to feel almost invisible, while carefully modulating performance so the actor subtly shifted tone as she moved from period drama to crime, mystery and comedy. By shooting at one frame per second using motion control, Nicos was able to choreograph real-time transformations in prosthetics, costume and set design, directing dozens of departments to move with the rhythm of the performance rather than cutting around it. The result is a film that foregrounds human labour, patience and collaboration, with Nicos’ steady, theatre-like direction anchoring an extraordinarily complex practical production and reinforcing the campaign’s anti-AI, pro-craft ethos.
