Director's Works
Dutch director Judith Veenendaal grew up in a creative household, the daughter of a jazz musician and sculpture artist. She began her filmmaking career at The Hague’s Royal Academy of Art, delving into the world of storytelling through film, photography and the performing arts. With an instinctual grasp of light, composition, and the surreal, Judith weaves narratives that are visually engaging and deeply poetic.
Inspired by her sister’s breast cancer diagnosis at age 33, Judith created this film to highlight the importance of early detection through self-examination and conversation.
’Feel’ reflects on the everyday power of our hands - used to care, to create, to love - yet so often forgotten when it comes to checking our own bodies.
’Talk’ tells the true story of Judith’s sister, whose spontaneous conversation with a stranger at a festival led that woman to discover her own breast cancer early.
Both films are available at checkyourbreasts.today, a website launched by Judith Veenendaal to raise awareness and help women learn how to check their breasts.
The films are produced by production companies Bonkers United, division7 and SMUGGLER.
