Dennis Tae Wook Kim is a professional VFX compositor, having worked on a variety of films and episodic TV shows during his 5 years in the VFX industry. His background in painting and newfound love for storytelling and expression through VFX has led him on a personal endeavor to create his own animated short films. Taking elements from dreams, memories, and experiences, Dennis explores an honest and intuitive approach to storytelling that borders on magical realism and the ambiguous line between the real and the fantastical.
CICADA CLOUDS is a semi-autobiographical animated film revisiting a childhood memory involving a cicada. It is an introspective visual poem attempting to reconcile the often naïve and careless actions of boyhood with the larger-than-life truths of nature, through the lens of a fifth-grade boy. Inspired by this magical realism and Matsuo Bashō's poem "The cry of the cicada", CICADA CLOUDS isn't a search for answers, but rather a timeless reflection of deeper appreciation for life's inexplainable yet wonderous moments.
