Director's Works
Burberry, Winter 2025 Daniel Quirke
Daniel Quirke is a BAFTA-nominated director from South London, known for his intimate and versatile approach to animation. His work spans a wide range of techniques, combining technically innovative methods with conceptually rich narratives. Constantly evolving, Daniel crafts stories that are as inventive as they are compelling.
Daniel was inspired by Burberry’s use of cross-stitched invitations and the brand’s heritage of craftsmanship, choosing to animate the iconic Burberry knight logo through 120 hand-stitched cross-stitch frames that depict the knight journeying through London landmarks like Tower Bridge to the Tate Britain show venue. With just four weeks to complete 30 seconds of animation, the team translated 2D sketches into stitch patterns, grappling with making forms clear yet suitably textured for embroidery. Quirke highlighted how the handcrafted technique aligns with Burberry’s identity and brings warmth and imperfection that contrast with digital perfection. Collaboration with expert compositing and sound design further tied the tactile process to modern animation, reinforcing both Burberry’s craftsmanship and British heritage in the execution.
