Director's Works
Specsavers, Wonder Dan Emmerson
Dan Emmerson’s laser eye for cinematic detail and skill at drawing authentic performances from actors and documentary subjects alike underpin his reputation as a vital British filmmaking talent. His mini-series ‘Finding Liverpool’ for Expedia and ‘Uncovered’ for Samsung both demonstrate these talents and underscore Dan’s ability to tap into subcultures. Whereas his comic EE advert ‘Parent Duty’ is pure, relatable joy.
The multifaceted director is renowned for mixing archival material with contemporary footage to craft resonant portraits of subcultures, such as in ‘Where Were You’ – an experimental portrait of pre-Brexit Britain for The Face. Dan’s skillset also extends to animation as illustrated by his The Specials promo ‘Vote For Me’, which was awarded Gold for animation at Ciclope.
Dan’s further commercial clients include: Loewe, Prostate Cancer UK, Burberry, Children in Need, H&M and Oakley, Amazon TV, and Art Fund.
Created to highlight the importance of early eye tests, Wonder is a film that celebrates the extraordinary way children see the world. Shot from a child’s perspective, the piece uses POV style footage to immerse us in the small, everyday discoveries that spark their imagination, from snails and ants to giant bubbles.
The film embraces a joyful truth: children notice more than we do. Their world is full of colour, curiosity and tiny details that often pass adults by.
