Director's Works
The Australian Marine Conservation Society, Fragile Oceans Andrew van der Westhuyzen
Andrew van der Westhuyzen is a designer, director and artist based in Sydney, Australia.
Co-founder of creative collective Collider, Andrew’s role as Creative Director at Collider has seen his involvement span 20 years of design and motion direction for a multitude of creative projects ranging from animation for global brands, catalogues for international artists to placemaking for cultural institutions.
In this experimental CG film to celebrate 60 years of the AMCS, we used the metaphor of air bubbles to imply the fragility of marine species. This involved complex recreations of some of our most recognisable sea creatures in the form of precarious formations of air.
The film’s soundtrack, Final Rescue Attempt, was kindly donated by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and gave the film a beautifully moving, sorrowful yet uplifting accompaniment to the themes and visuals of the film.
