Andrew Garcia is a Cuban-American director and cinematographer from Miami, Florida, crafting coming of age stories and family dramas with a docu-style approach. His work centres on the nuances of cultural backgrounds and how they influence our identity, with a particular focus on immigrant narratives. In 2019, his short film “La Piel De Ayer”, was acquired by HBO, and in 2024 his film "Tumba del Mar" won the Best Narrative Short at the RiverRun Film Festival. His latest documentary piece, "Densho", is currently on view at the Dallas Contemporary Museum.

Densho is what I stand for in film; small crews producing intimate portraits that honor family - in their history and in their resilience. Even though I don’t share the same heritage as Shigeto, the three of us came together as artists to tell a piece of a story that reflects both who we are beyond our ethnic heritage, and how that ethnic heritage has influenced our values, our creative voices, and our respect for the generations before us.
