Director's Works
Alexander Knauer is a young director from Germany whose work centers on social issues and comedy. His portfolio spans music videos, short films, and commercials, all marked by strong character-driven storytelling and striking visual imagery.
Born and raised in the foothills of the Alps in southern Germany, he now lives in Weimar.
DROWNING IS SILENT is an audiovisual fundraising project supporting civilian sea rescue. The story follows Jaboah, an African boy, and Mia, an employee of a rescue organization. When they encounter each other in a traumatic situation on the open sea, they find themselves abandoned by political institutions — and ultimately lose their lives.
The drastic, unembellished images we have chosen and the different perspectives from which the story is told allow the viewer to experience the suffering of the protagonists and raise awareness of the incredibly important issue of sea rescue.
