Alex Deitsch is a writer/director and photographer based in London.

His short films have played at the BFI, Roundhouse and BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival. In 2019 he was awarded the BFI Future Film Lab Award.

I met Orlando on the way home from a night out. He was on the top deck of the night bus showing his mates a magazine filled with alien-like designs, molten metal reshaped into uncanny forms. I looked over the seat and immediately saw a visual world to match. After a few months of talking, I put together a short shot-deck.

We shot the whole project piecemeal on no budget over a year. Orlando secured a studio, and my mate Felix generously let us test a prototype reflective ink on his face (thanks to Mike at Glowtec). We jumped a fence into a skate park late at night for the final void sequence, and managed to shoot everything on discontinued Orwo UN54 Super 8 stock.

In the end, it just felt like good timing, a chance meeting that set everything in motion.
