YoPro, Witness Yourself Ale Ruiz-Zorrilla
Ale is a director whose storytelling passion cuts across genres, driven by an innate curiosity and a love for observational work. With a unique ability to find beauty in the mundane, she brings a nuanced empathy to her films, creating work that is both intimately grounded and universally meaningful.
This particular project was an amazing opportunity to celebrate sports through an unconventional lense. We wanted to look for adrenaline and power, but also for emotions, satisfaction and joy. Our setting was already giving us the chance of portraying these people in their own "zone". Our cast understood the assignment, and they were as committed on set as in any of their own training sessions, if not more. The sweat was real. The effort was real. The joy was real. It was an amazing experience to capture them through this lens, creating visual world of graphical shadows and playful environments that evoke the highs and lows of training- the highs and lows of one's own progress. We wanted to reflect the idea of "witnessing yourself" in that journey. That became the beating heart of this project.
