Neighborhood Watch director and photographer of Encyclopedia Pictura, Daren Rabinovitch’s latest film for Noname’s “Hundred Acres” features prosthetic animal transformations, live-action cartoon theatricality, and elaborate character design, with dance by LA choreographer Mike Tyus. In-camera effects and hand-made costumes come together to create a magical realism on the streets of Los Angeles.
“Noname embodies many contradictory feelings at once,” says director Daren Rabinovitch. “She’s playful and serious, concrete and surreal, political and personal, earnest and ironic. These contrasts are at the heart of our video. We wanted to make something that could be lowkey yet ecstatic, mundane yet phantasmagorical.”
