Talking Heads – Psycho Killer By Mike Mills
To mark the 50th anniversary of Talking Heads’ formation, the band has released the first-ever official music video for their 1977 classic Psycho Killer, directed by MJZ filmmaker Mike Mills. Rather than taking a literal or violent approach to the song’s famously unsettling lyrics, Mills uses repetition and restraint to explore what he calls the “psychic violence” of everyday life. Starring Saoirse Ronan, the film loops through 13 subtly shifting versions of the same mundane day, building a quiet but mounting emotional tension. With a nod to the band’s avant-garde sensibilities, Mills brings a tender and unexpected lens to a track that’s long lived in pop culture’s darker corners.
