Snoop Dogg’s latest track Last Dance with Mary Jane is a trippy tribute to weed and legacy, featuring Jelly Roll and cameos from B-Real, Method Man, Bob Marley, Tupac, and Tom Petty. Inspired by Petty’s 1993 classic Mary Jane’s Last Dance, the video is directed by Dave Meyers and produced by Psyop in collaboration with their newly rostered creative studio Temple Caché. The film is a surreal, semi-autobiographical journey through Snoop’s life and his deep-rooted connection with weed. We see him re-live his youth in a dreamlike world before returning to a doctor’s office - and a decision. Bummer. Involving over 30 artists and animators, to blend live action with 2D, 3D, collage, motion design, and AI, the six-minute film avoids relying on a single technique. Temple Caché’s custom AI tools helped shape characters and landscapes, but every frame was refined by hand. “AI can’t yet capture the nuance of real storytelling,” said Psyop’s Andrew Linsk. “That’s where the human touch matters.”
