Sam Dew, THE MOONLIT FOOLS TRILOGY

Young Replicant

Pulse Films

MOONLIT FOOLS is a music video trilogy directed by Young Replicant (aka Alex Takács) for Sam Dew’s album of the same name on RCA Records. In a modern day twist on classic myth, the series finds the labour of love outsourced to a group of app workers hustling nightly from a port-side cantina. They deliver messages by foot, moped, and car, coloring the thoughts of lovers across the city with either heartache or desire. After years as a super-producer secret weapon, Sam Dew was looking for a collaborator to help establish his visual identity as a fully fledged solo artist. With the help of commissioner Danna Takako, they sought out Young Replicant for his substantive world-building and auteure style. The completed trilogy marks MOONLIT FOOLS as a sophisticated heavyweight among this year's top music video and album campaigns.

Canadian born, Los Angeles raised director Alex Takacs began making videos under the Young Replicant moniker while studying design at UCLA. With a dedication to narrative storytelling that belies a strong background in graphic arts, Alex has gone on to direct promos for critically acclaimed artists such as The xx, Purity Ring, Bonobo, Lorde and Flying Lotus, His commitment to poetic cinematography and naturalistic performances has marked him as a go-to director for arresting visuals with a strong emotional core.
