Fondation Abbé Pierre, Les Héritiers

Valérie Donzelli

Phantasm

The approach of winter, skyrocketing inflation, and the surge in energy prices have severely weakened households, with the risk that many of them will either sink further into precariousness or fall into it. On the housing front, the crisis is intensifying, and despite the mobilization of the entire sector, the political class does not fully grasp the urgency of the situation. For the 70th anniversary of the Abbé Pierre's call and the national wave of generosity it had sparked, the Foundation has sought to place the figure of its founder, his messages, and his values at the heart of the public discourse. His call resonates today with painful acuteness in this tense context. The Abbé Pierre Foundation intends to demonstrate that it is more mobilized than ever to take action through its new awareness campaign and that it will continue to uphold the values of brotherhood, harmony, and optimism for the future.

Before entering the world of cinema, Valérie studied architecture but later abandoned it to become an actress. She then built her career with her first short films and early festival appearances before releasing her first feature film, "LA REINE DES POMMES" (The Queen of Hearts). Her film "LA GUERRE EST DÉCLARÉE" (Declaration of War) opened the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, won awards at the Cabourg Film Festival and Paris Cinéma, and received four César nominations in 2012, including Best Film and Best Director. In 2015, her feature film "MARGUERITE & JULIEN" was selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. In parallel, Valérie also has an acting career with appearances in "SAINT LAURENT," "LES CHEVALIERS BLANCS," and the TV series "DIX POUR CENT" (Call My Agent!). In 2019, Valérie Donzelli directed the film "NOTRE DAME," in which she portrayed an architect. In 2021, she co-directed her first series, "NONA ET SES FILLES," which aired on Arte. The series tells the story of a feminist activist, mother of triplets, and head of a family planning organization. Valérie Donzelli returned to Cannes in 2023 for the premiere of her film "L’AMOUR ET LES FORÊTS" (Love and Forests) starring Virginie Efira and Melvil Poupaud. The film is an adaptation of Éric Reinhardt's novel of the same name.
