The Basics of Love

Joshua Nathan

All of the interior driving shots were filmed stationary with blue screen. Big kudos to our actors who self-motivated all of the little bounces and bumps that you see, as well as to our amazing VFX team!

Joshua Nathan was raised on a farm in the Mennonite village of Moundridge, Kansas. After two years at Bethel College on a football scholarship he transferred to the University of Kansas to study film. He made the move to Los Angeles to crew on Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER and has continued to work on a number of Anderson's sets (he recently even had a small acting role in LICORICE PIZZA). He also studied under Werner Herzog at his Rogue Film School. Later Joshua received his MFA as a Directing Fellow from The American Film Institute. Joshua’s thesis film, THE BASICS OF LOVE, played at over a dozen film festivals, including the Nashville Film Festival, Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, Los Angeles Shorts International Film Festival, and it was selected as the Closing Night Short film for the Stony Brook Film Festival. Alongside his personal film projects, Joshua also works as a commercial director, with clients including Warner Brothers, New Balance, Amazon, and LA28 Olympic Committee.
