Big Red Button is the dynamic directorial duo of Johnny Burns and Pier van Tijn. Originally hailing from London (Johnny) and Toronto (Pier), the pair met on a film set and quickly bonded over their mutual sense of humour – leading to a shared career behind the camera. Known for their surrealist comedy and cutting wit, their work is grounded in reality while delivering memorably offbeat twists. Big Red Button first gained acclaim in the commercial world with their British Arrow Award-winning anti-drug campaign for FRANK. The provocatively funny campaign instantly established the duo as a comedic force to be reckoned with. They quickly followed up with prominent spots for Go Compare (starring Stephen Hawking), Virgin Media, Carlsberg, and the award-winning “Chav Tranquiliser” for Paddy Power. Their most recent projects include campaigns for Stella Artois, Fanta, Domino’s, Snickers, Heineken, Travel Republic, Booking.com, the BBC, and Ribena, among others. In addition, their recent short film “Get Staffed” won Best International Short Film Under 5 Minutes and Best Writing & Concept at the Kinsale Sharks, and was also nominated for a Webby. Johnny and Pier are based in London, and are proud to have helmed three of the U.K. Advertising Standards Authority’s “top five complained about ads” in a single year.
