Joy to the world
Title of film: Duppy White & Kano, A Blessed Place
Director: Aneil Karia
Production Company: Somesuch
When director Aneil Karia – who has just been Oscar nominated for his film The Long Goodbye - teams up with the musician Kano magic happens. Just take a look at their collaborations such as Teardrops or Trouble and now this celebration of Jamaican life, A Blessed Place. The short film explores the rapper’s family connections with the country that inspired Duppy White, a new white rum founded by Kano. Uplifting spirits indeed.

“We made a short film for Duppy White and it’s called A Blessed Place. Directed by a friend, and true G, Aneil Karia. This is a small piece of it,” posted Kano.

“When it came to the making and promoting of this rum it was always important to me to show the proper respect to the Land We Love. And also for the venture not to be perceived simply as the lending of my name to a product, to help it sell. This was more like an extension of what I already do. I’m a storyteller. So from the liquid, to the label design, I welcomed this whole process as another outlet to tell a story. My story. British citizens with Jamaican parents. Our story.

“This short film explores why my mother’s birth place has been a constant source of inspiration in my life, and how such a relatively small place, and its beautiful people, has impacted the world.”
