"Last week at Stink we realised we were in a pretty unique position," writes global head of Stink Rising Katie Lambert, "with directors, staff and creatives positioned all over the world. This sparked the idea of asking all these people to present some kind of creative offering, showing their situation and perspective. We’ve been overwhelmed with the responses - from poems, through photography to film. And tonally we’ve had toilet jokes, heartfelt love letters, frustration, despair and hope. For 1.4 only we decided to give a little sneak preview of what’s coming up - corners of photos, stills from films - all hints at the work from our global village."

But first a note from 1.4: Little did we realise how pertinent our last post of W+K Amsterdam creative director Albert Thierry’s film, Solo, of his son Jules playing in splendid solitude was going to be. And little did we realise it would be centrepiece for over two weeks!

Many of you also must have made last minute dashes to be with family and loved ones – in my case to Bangkok – and it’s been a blizzard of getting supplies delivered (waaaay too many mangoes), washing everything scrupulously clean from lettuce leaves to suitcases, and the occasional 5am trek dressed like an astronaut to the all-night supermarket for essentials, reassuringly getting thermo-gunned by security on return.

From obsessively horror-scrolling the news and social media a peace is beginning to emerge in isolation – ideas are beginning to fizz and it’s time to calvanise our filmic creativity.

We have some stunning interviews with brilliant filmmakers which we will be posting as usual – and of course we would love to publish any excellent new work – particularly films – relevant to this extraordinary time we’re living in.

May we all keep our good health. And keep breathing. Deeply.

Meanwhile, we asked Stink’s Katie Lambert to give us a taster of what’s coming up on their daily Instagram project featuring their global roster of directors’ responses to their current experience of isolation with films / stills / poems / etc.

It launches today on @stinkfilms #view_finder.

Andrew Thomas Huang – in LA – we loved the personal look Andrew gave us into his life.

“It’s been a really exciting and rewarding process thus far, just seeing the situation in Shanghai compared to Italy – I feel like a big part of the virus has been discussion of different countries in ‘different stages’. So much talk has been about how we are 2 weeks behind so and so, or two weeks in front of where ever else. This project was designed to unite us all in the present, whilst also showing the variation which does exist over the world.

“Stay tuned we have a lot more to come! I would love to see this open up even further than Stink.”
